Industrial Cleaning of a Foundry Ceiling in Milwaukee, WI

Transforming the Foundry's Ceiling

Recently we were asked to tackle the job of cleaning the ceiling of a foundry in Milwaukee. In case you aren’t familiar with the industry, a foundry is a facility where metal casts are created. Valuable work, but incredibly messy. Molten metal and its by-products are dirty and difficult to work with, and create a thick blanket of soot that will spread its way throughout the work environment if left unchecked.

This soot is what we dealt with in particular during this project. In fact, there wasn’t just a dusting, but a formidable six-inch layer! Our process included the following steps:

• Protect the area - To contain the mess, we tarped off the entire area 
• Sweep - We then swept off the majority of the soot
• Hand-Cleaning - After the bulk of it was swept off the ceiling, we cleaned by hand
• Painting - As a final step we painted the ceiling, creating a brighter and infinitely cleaner environment

As a happy ending to the story, the surface not only looks great but we were invited back to clean and paint another section of the foundry ceiling elsewhere in the facility.
