Rust Encapsulation and Prevention for Dredging Equipment in Southern Illinois

“Dredge” is a word you may use occasionally in reference to rehashing an old topic or discussion, but you might not be quite as familiar with where it actually originates. It essentially refers to dragging something up from the bottom and bringing it to the surface. While you may know someone who is talented at doing that in a conversational setting, there also is industrial equipment that is specifically designed for the purpose.
That brings us to our recent project in Southern Illinois. As you can see in the photos above, the large rusty pontoons on these powerful dredgers were looking a little worse for the wear. Our mission was to stop the rust in its tracks and provide a fresh new coating.
Rust Removal for Rusty Pontoons
Thanks to the time spent in the water, these pontoons were experiencing a high level of decay. Their road to recovery involved the following steps:
- Using our tow-behind industrial sandblasting equipment, we removed the exterior layers of decrepit paint and peeling rust
- Applied a submersible marine coating to the pontoons
- We also painted the crane that is used for pulling the dredger in and out of the water with a rust encapsulant
- We were happy to provide a 10 year warranty against coating failure
What do you think of the transformation? Not only are these pontoons protected and guaranteed, but they also look fantastic.
