Wall Painting In a Car Dealership Service Area

If you have ever spent time in an auto garage, you know that mechanics and technicians face an unavoidable spread of grease, oil, and fluids. No matter how neat and orderly the environment is, the nature of the work itself creates a mess.
This particular client needed us to repaint the interior walls of their service area. But, because of the factors we mentioned above, there were a few steps that needed to be taken first.
Thorough Surface Preparation for Interior Painting
Our process included the following steps:
- Cleaning - Whether you are painting the spare bedroom or tackling an industrial-grade project, it is universally crucial that the surface be clean. Why? Well, a dirty surface compromises the quality of the adhesion which, in turn, shortens the lifespan of the paint. In this case, we washed the walls with an industrial degreaser to help clear the path for a fresh coating.
- Containment - Using plastic sheets designed for the purpose, we covered the floor and electrical boxes, then hung makeshift walls to protect surfaces from overspray.
- Paint - As a final step (and the icing on the cake), we applied the paint. For this project we selected Benjamin Moore’s Coronado 5000. This commercial-grade paint is quick to hide imperfections, and offers a finish that will certainly be able to stand up to whatever is thrown at it (or, in this case, splattered on it).
At the end of the process we cleaned up and disposed of our plastic sheets, leaving nothing more than a clean, refreshed surface behind. Not only does the new paint look great, but it also brightens the space too thanks to the reflective nature of the semi-gloss sheen.
This was actually Phase 2 of 3 for this client: first we paint the ceiling, then the walls, and now we’re looking forward to installing a new epoxy floor system for them as well. Stay tuned!
