Scope
Power wash & paint a large ship loader over water.
A large petrochemical recycling company on the Texas Gulf coast contracted us to repaint a large ship loader using corrosion control coatings to withstand the marine environment where it is located.
Process
- Planning meetings with our equipment vendors, safety coordinators, and client to ensure work to be performed safely.
- Deployed 8-man crew to complete the project in the scheduled timeframe.
- Installed netting and support equipment in the water to capture debris during operations. Netting was hung from the loader where necessary to catch debris.
- Entire loader & structure was thoroughly power washed using 6000 psi washer & degreased where necessary.
- All areas to be coated received cleaning & preparation consistent with SSPC-SP1, SSPC-SP2, and SSPC-SP3 specifications.
- Applied 2 coats of a rust encapsulating primer and 2 coats gloss to the entire structure.
- All hand rails & ladders painted with OSHA safety yellow.
- Attended a thorough post-project walk-thru with the client and coating vendor to ensure job satisfaction.
Results
- Able to provide a 10-year warranty against coating failure because all surface preparation was in accordance with the manufacturer’s specifications.
- Ship loader is now protected against deterioration due to the corrosive marine & petrochemical environments.
