Client and Facility Overview
Brenntag Southwest Inc, a branch of the globally recognized Brenntag, is a premier chemical and ingredients distributor. The company provides customized solutions to a variety of industries including pharmaceuticals, personal care and water treatment. Located in Lancaster, Texas, this facility spans approximately 10,000 sq. ft. and plays a crucial role in the company's distribution network.
Decision Driver and Timing
The main driver for this project was the critical need to recoat bulk storage tanks containing caustic, flammable chemicals. The tanks could not be emptied, precluding the use of abrasive blasting or other profiling methods, thus requiring specialized techniques to ensure safety and efficacy. The failure of existing coatings posed significant operational risks, urging immediate action to prevent any potential hazards or disruptions in service.

Notable Details
High-Level Safety Measures
Given the precarious nature of the materials involved, a high degree of caution and meticulous attention to safety protocols was paramount throughout the project. Adhesion testing was used instead of traditional profiling methods to ensure a strong bond for the new coatings.
Innovative Techniques
To address safety, operational and financial risks, we opted for heavy power washing and hand rolling instead of blasting and spray-painting. These methods, while time-consuming, minimized the potential for hazardous material exposure and maintained operational integrity.
Safety
All work followed strict OSHA guidelines as well as Brenntag's internal safety protocols. Painters USA ensured that every step was taken with the utmost care to protect employees and the environment from potential hazards.
Client Satisfaction
The operations manager at Brenntag Southwest Inc. was very pleased with our approach and results. With open lines of communication and an unwavering focus on safety and quality, we delivered a solution that not only met, but exceeded the customer's expectations.
