Client and Facility Overview
Our client, a manufacturer of heat tools for the food and beverage industry, has a strong presence in central Wisconsin. They supply a wide range of heat tools critical to food processing and manufacturing. The customer operates a large facility with six raw material storage silos. These silos play a pivotal role in their production line, storing various raw materials essential to the manufacture of their heat tools.
Decision Driver and Timing
The focus of this project was rust control for the six storage silos. Initially contacted in 2015, the project was delayed due to other pressing needs. Regular check-ins kept us on top of things, and in May 2022, the client gave the go-ahead to proceed. Recognizing the importance of addressing these issues, the client wanted to protect the silos with a reliable coating system that would provide long-term durability, backed by a 5-year warranty.
Scope of Work
- Initial Assessment: We performed a thorough evaluation via photographs and rough dimensions to deliver a preliminary estimate, showcasing our commitment to transparency and efficiency.
- Surface Preparation: The silos were power washed using a 6,000 PSI wash to remove loose coatings, dirt, grease, and other contaminants.
- Rust Removal: A power tool was used to manually eliminate pack rust, ensuring a clean surface for subsequent coatings.
- Primer Application: The silos were primed with a high-solids, two-part, 475 epoxy primer to ensure excellent adhesion and protection.
- Topcoat Application: We applied a high-performance urethane 68R topcoat in gloss white, chosen for its durability and aesthetic appeal. All applications utilized dryfall products to minimize overspray risks, as they dry 10-20 feet from the applicator.
