The 5 Big Decisions in Any Concrete Floor Project

Having a concrete floor installed is a big job. You don’t want to run into any surprises along the way, so there are plenty of decisions to be made before work can begin. In this post, we are going to take a quick look at the five big decisions you’ll need to make as this process moves along.
#1 – Selecting a Concrete Mix
The concrete is the star of the show in this project, so this is a pretty obvious place to start. You’ll want to select the right mix for the job, which may mean getting outside help from someone more experienced in this kind of work. The right mix is going to depend on the intended use for the concrete floor, along with other factors.
#2 – Set a Timeline
Having a timeline in place is crucial with any large industrial flooring project. You will want to know exactly when all of the various pieces of the puzzle are going to be completed so the floor can be finished in a timely manner. Of course, you can’t just pick these dates out of the air, so you’ll need to do some homework to figure out how long you can reasonably expect the project to take.
#3 – How Much Concrete Do You Need?
This is a pretty obvious decision that needs to be made, but it is an important one. You need to know how much concrete will be needed for the job in order to place an order and have it delivered when expected. The last thing you want to be doing is scrambling for more concrete late in the process because you haven’t taken the time to plan out this detail of the job.
#4 – Will It Be Polished?
Polishing a concrete floor is an extra step in the process, but it will be well worth it in many applications. You’ll need to decide whether or not the floor is going to be polished, and you’ll also need to decide how that work is going to be done. Fortunately, thanks to the availability of a power trowel to work as an industrial floor polisher in many circumstances, the cost of taking this extra step is not necessarily as high as it once was. If the idea of having a polished concrete floor makes sense for your needs, look into the possibility of using a power trowel for the work.
#5 – Pick a Color
This relates back to our first point on the mix you are going to use, but you will also need to be sure to select the color you want to achieve with the finished product. The basis for your color selection might be for functional purposes, or it might be strictly aesthetic. Whatever the case, don’t ignore this important point until it is too late to make a change.
